Beneath Still Waters

from Anne In The Bleak Light by Anne Beyond the Darkness

/

lyrics

alone on a boat in the ruins
flood and walls fall into water
streets and sidewalks with ruined cars and bikes
rust and overgrowth and broken windows

I put my hand in the water
I unfold into dreams looking for the sink girl
who lives in a house made of stone and zinc
it sits by a rock and a lake at the edge of the woods

in a ruin
beneath the surface
clear and still
I hold the sun in my hands

just a dreadful sense
of loneliness
being cut off from
everybody else

and brightest waters turn into dusk
fading roofs on broken buildings
and shattered glass shining in green and red
it's all covered in cracks and weeds and grass

she's got her head in the water
her arms raised her hands catch the sun
as she wakes up and meets your eyes
you're the moon and the water and all of the world
held in her broken heart

in a ruin
beneath the surface
clear and still
I hold the sun in my hands

just a dreadful sense
of loneliness
being cut off from
everybody else
